Europe at War is an initiative started within the Permanent Assembly Against the War, bringing together people and collectives who want to understand and oppose the transformations produced by Europe’s growing involvement in war and militarism.
Our aim is to discuss how, besides the active role of European states in fueling wars, dramatic shifts are happening also inside Europe, with societal effects that go well beyond its institutional borders and that affect the lives and struggles of migrants, women and LGBTQIA people, and workers. Militarism reinforces social and political institutions, from the family to the State, to internal and external borders, by emphasizing the need for hierarchies, discipline, and centralized authorities that enforce the grip of racism, exploitation, and patriarchal violence.
We want to put together the puzzled pieces of “Europe at War”, discussing strategic and organizational directions and their concrete manifestations into perspective. Europe at War does not take a side within war. We take a side against war and against the oppressive social relations that war reproduces, without turning European belonging into the horizon of political action. The effects of a Europe at War are transnational, and so must be the opposition to it.
