We republish the second issue of The Amazon Worker, the journal of Amazon Workers International (AWI).
It amplifies the workers’ voices by collecting testimonies and reports from Poland, where our comrade and union activist Magda Malinowska was reinstated after a long legal battle, from the Basque Country, where workers in Trapagaran went on strike for 18 days in December 2023 facing a severe repression and union-busting activities by the company, and from India, where wages, workloads and health conditions in Amazon warehouses are among the worst in the world. The journal also contains a comparison of wage levels, working hours, unionization, number of strikes and percentage of temporary workers between several Amazon warehouses in Europe, North America and Asia, showing not only the common exploitation imposed in Amazon warehouses throughout the world, but also the very unequal and differentiated conditions that they find workers have to face in different countries.
It is precisely this common exploitation in the context of these differences that a transnational workers’ organization against Amazon has to challenge, and this journal wants to point out.
